Although I would love for it to be a scientific fact, the belief that the moon pulls our menstrual cycle is a myth. The majority of menstrual cycles are not linked with the moon phases. Even though this popular belief is in fact a myth the lunar cycle and the female hormone cycle are still linked. Lunar energy is linked to the divine feminine, making the moon a feminine force. Our moon has been linked to many powerful goddesses across cultures, Both the female hormone cycle and the lunar cycle average out at about 28 days. These connections point to potential reasons for syncing the two cycles up manually.
Energy levels are impacted by hormonal levels; this is a scientific fact. Energy levels are impacted by lunar rays; this is a metaphysical fact. (Metaphysical facts are harder to back up with evidence, the same way scientific facts are. However, I will be doing a series about the crossovers of metaphysical and scientific.) Depending on the type of person you are or job you have, you may find benefits to syncing up your cycle with different phases of the moon. There are 3 basic types of personal goals that can be used to decide where to link your cycle: the Creative, the Witch, and the Moneymaker.
The Creative
The Creative sync-up is good for people who are looking to pursue an artistic career: dancer, illustration, videographer, digital artist, writer, painter, sculptor, singer, musician, etc. The goal would be to sync up the rise in estrogen levels with the most creative part of the lunar cycle. In this case, your goal is to be most energized during the waning gibbous. Syncing up your menstrual cycle with the waxing crescent phase is the way to go for a 28-day cycle. You want to make sure your period comes before the third quarter or you won’t get the peak of your energy during the moon’s creative period.
The Witch
The Witch is looking to connect to the moon on a divine level. However, not all witches will function on the same lunar schedule. A baneful witch wants to get their period at the beginning of the first quarter. This is because the last quarter is a good time for baneful workings and bindings. A shadow witch who likes to connect with the shadow self wants to schedule a little later so they can have the peak of their energy spread across the last quarter to the new moon. They thrive in darkness and those 6 days will be good for banishing, shadow work, and baneful wards. A witch who lives by divination or astrology would be best to sync up their cycle with the new moon. A witch who thrives on research, planning, grimoires, and manifestation would be best syncing up with the full moon, since the new moon and waxing crescent are a time for research, manifestation, and planning.
The Money Maker
For those who want to get material reward out of the moon phases you want to sync up your period with the last quarter moon. This is because the following moon phase, waning crescent, is seen as a time for rest and recovery, which means you’ll be resting when your estrogen levels are low. This all means you’ll be having peak energy during the first quarter and the waxing gibbous. Waxing gibbous is a time for growth, reflection, and collection. It’s a good time to start taking action.
