Sex magick, also spelled as “sex magic” or “sexual magick,” is a form of ritual magic that involves the use of sexual energy, often in combination with meditation, visualization, and other magical practices, to achieve specific spiritual or magical goals. This practice is deeply rooted in various ancient cultures and has evolved over time to take on different forms and interpretations.

Historical Origins

The concept of harnessing sexual energy for magical power is documented across ancient civilizations such as the Egyptians, The Celts, Greeks, Germanic Tribes, and Romans. These cultures believed that sexual energy held transformative power and could be directed towards achieving spiritual enlightenment or influencing the material world. Sex magick was a sacred part of many ancient traditions and rituals and played a major role in many holidays and sabbats. In fact, we can see its important when looking to this history of our Witch Sabbats that we recognize today.

Our modern Understanding of Sex Magick is often influenced by western occult traditions. Where voices of Aleister Crowley have greater influence then they need to. They gathered practices from cultures they didn’t understand and formulated their own understandings to push forward sex magick. The “liberation” these voices promised was male-dominated and often used homosexuality as an outlet of rebellion rather than recognizing it as a an identity.

Sexual Energy

The Practice of Sex Magick begins with a practitioner’s understanding of energy. Energy is the source that pushes all aspects of the craft. It is a practitioner’s ability to manipulate, transmit, and transform universal energies that allows their spells and manifestations come to light.

When performing a spell Practitioner’s usually draw energy from the items in their casting. Some enjoy using herbs, some prefer to channel the power of their crystals, and others harness the power of elements. However, we often forget that we the practitioner are all the energy we need. I explain this concept more in depth in my 9 Spiritual Principles, but basically, all things in this universe have energy, and since we are a thing in this universe we carry energy. In magick, we can find different ways to transmute the energy within us. For example, an incantation allows us to use words to pull the energy we carry in ourselves forth to bring about a particular event or change. In Sex Magick, we are transmuting energy that is emitted during an orgasm into a boundless metaphysical energy that can be uses to charge a magickal practice.

The Principles of Sex Magick

Amplification of Intent: Intentions are often overly depended on in many rituals, however, in sex magick, intentions are the tool they use to guide that Energy. Through visualization, a practitioner enacts their desires with focused intention during the moment of climax. 

Orgasm is a Power Source: When someone is partaking in sexual stimulation, the build up in a body leads to a release when you climax. This release is the power source a witch uses to empower their ritual. This means that any consensual action resulting in an orgasm (oral sex, external stimulation, sexual intercourse, masturbation, etc.) can be performed for a sex magick ritual.

Sacredness of Sexuality: Sex whether casual, romantic, or otherwise intended, is a deeply intimate practice where an individual connects to their own body and allows another this same connection. This moment is sacred and divine in its power.
