How to Dismantle or Remove A Spell

3 Spell jars in hand

Sometimes a witch finds themselves wanting to undo an old spell. They may want to remove it, recast it, or reuse the materials, whichever they choose, they are in need of a Spell Dismantling. When doing this the spell will be undone and the positive effects you are seeing may no longer stay. Whether this actively applies depends very strongly on the spell you have cast.

Types of Spell Jars

Spell jars are a type of spellcasting that’s effects are linked to contact with the glass. For example, using protection spells jars as jewelry or to cast circles of protection for future spellwork. But what if you decide you want to take it apart? Will the effects remain?

It is relatively safe to say that spell jars can be dismantled so the ingredients and the jar can be reused. However, if the spell is bound by the jar dismantling it would naturally deactivate it.

Examples:

  • Protection Spell Jars – Because Protection Spell Jars are meant to provide protection to their holder it does not provide permanent protection. If you dismantle it, make sure you have other forms of protection.
  • Self-Love Spell Jars – Self-love spells are meant to gradually increase your confidence over time, sp taking apart the spell will not stop the work it has already done for you.
  • Money/Luck Spell Jars – Money/Luck Spell jars provide active results over time. If you take them apart they will not continue to provide you with abundance. If you want a money/luck spell that continues to work consider abundance incantations, sigil burnings, and money bowls.

Spell Jars Removal

These conditions can be affected by how the spell was cast. Reference your book of shadows to make sure the conditions are not affected by the presence of the jar. If the conditions are affected, you can use a reversal incantation as you dismantle the jar. Here is one from my Book of Shadows.

As I take these pieces bound in the past

by magick, incantations, and the spell cast

May the energy flow through my fingers’ tips

And remain protected by the words from my lips.

I will let this magick continue to be seen.

By the power within me,

So mote it be.

Enchantments and Incantations

There are two basic ways enchantments are cast: through channeling or through incantation. Many practitioners like myself choose to do both. If you channeled energy from one item into the enchanted one object, then you can simple cleanse item. If you wish to use it for something else then channel from something else to charge it. If you cast an incantation, you will need to cast a reversal incantation. Here is one from my Book of Shadows:

Remove that which I previously gave

The power of which it will no longer gain

But should I choose to add once more

Let it be more powerful than before

So Mote it Be

Incantations can be cast as stand-alone spells; in which case the previous incantation should still do the job. However, if you want a better outcome, I always recommend writing your own incantation.

Reusing Old Spell Materials

Reusing old spell materials may seem extremely risky, especially for practitioners who do baneful work. However, there are ways to safely reuse old materials. If there weren’t then we wouldn’t be able to use cauldrons for spellwork.

The safest way to reuse old spell materials is the cleanse and recharge. When you clear away the intentions of the previously casted spell and put into the item the intentions of the new spell.

You can cleanse the items using cleansing methods (e.g. incense, sound, water) and recharge them using declarations, sigils, or incantations.
