The last quarter can be a very demanding phase for us. We will feel that the people and things in our life that we tried to hold tightly onto, begin to slip. We will feel overwhelmed by all of the energies the past few moons have provided. As the seventh phase of the moon, the last quarter really asks us to use the last of our strength. During this time the moon holds onto the knowledge attained during the waning gibbous to help us move forward. However, moving forward may come at a cost. When we are on a long journey we can often be stifled by excess weight, and it is finally time to drop the weight.
The quarter moons do not have the exact same window as the new and full moons do, however, a witch or spiritualist that chooses to live by the moon may want to operate within the 12-72 hour window concept. Because the third quarter is so demanding I recommend doing a 3 day period. The day previous to the moon provides us with energy for decision-making. The night of the last quarter is all about letting go and is attached to banishing energies. The day right after is about expelling your excess energy.
In tarot, the last quarter is associated with the judgment card. If living by the three-day rule, it is best associated with the first night of the third quarter period. It gives us the power to make the proper decisions about how to move forward and who to let go of.

What to Do?
If you have been living by your moon phases, then you have been doing a lot of inner reflection. During this time, you should have come to some realizations about your interpersonal relationships. If you haven’t properly evaluated your interpersonal relationships, you may want to dedicate time during the last quarter to focus solely on the relationships in your life and what they mean to you. Once you have made decisions about who is in your life and whether they are good for you, you can start to cut out the negative ones from your life. The last quarter’s strongest energy is its push for us to let go. In magic, this makes it the ideal time for banishing, cleansing, and chord cuttings. This is not the time to attract abundance or ask for more. This letting go doesn’t only refer to people but it may also refer to places and items as well. Clean out your closet, donate the clothes that don’t fit anymore, empty the drunk drawer, get rid of everything you’re hoarding.
Last Quarter Babies
With all the energy of the last quarter pushing us towards chord cutting and banishing, you may be able to guess the two different directions of the last-quarter’s babies. In trauma, the last quarter babies are often left with commitment issues or are the ones causing commitment issues. At their worst they are self-imposed isolationists who have too many walls up and struggle to let people past them. They are prone to holding grudges on the people they care about most. However, at their best last quarter babies make the most loyal of companions, ready to take a bullet for those they let into their lives. The sentimental demeanor of some last-quarter babies may be mistaken for a materialistic approach to living. Being caught between the desire to be completely alone and their caring nature, last-quarter babies are often found in deep self-reflection trying to decide which option is best for them.
